I am proud and delighted to be a candidate for Belmont, alongside my running colleagues Katie Corrigan and Paul Finley.

Our campaign is well underway and we’ve received a great deal of positivity from the doors we have knocked on so far and some genuine challenges that I will be keen to rise to, if elected.

My main focus is to provide a voice at county level for the people of this division and use that voice to shout about the positive change Labour is making in the area.

County Durham Labour recognises a tight-knit community is the bedrock of a thriving area. That’s why we have supported three community centres in Belmont Division, as well as supporting a new science lab at Belmont Community School, the Laurel Avenue School, the Friends of Belmont Library and many more local projects.

We also know how important it is to help young people and Labour is using its community budgets to help several youth projects, providing funding so that much-needed facilities continue to add value.

Belmont division is not without its issues, however. Increased traffic and parking are significant challenges we must overcome, and there are hidden issues like increasing poverty and a lack of job opportunities that must be addressed.

There is no doubt we have funding problems. It is our job to be there and provide support and assistance where and when we are able.

I want to continue the excellent work Labour has done in Belmont over the last four years. It would be an honour for me to be able to play a part in improving the lives of the people of this ward.

Councillors have been in constant contact with residents and the way we can overcome challenges and move forward is to keep everyone informed, making sure they know they are valued members of this community and their views are represented when decisions are made at County Hall.

Despite local authority cuts, Labour will continue to work tirelessly to ensure our communities continue to grow, thrive and provide an excellent quality of life.
