New play equipment, funded by Labour county councillors, is primed and ready for an influx of students next week, as children and young people return to school.

The equipment was installed at Sherburn Primary School, Sherburn Village, last Easter, but has seen little action due to the COVID-19 lockdowns and school closures, to everyone other than vulnerable children and those of key workers.

The £27,500 park was created thanks to a donation of £16,000 from the Neighbourhood Budgets of councillors David Hall and Bill Kellett, who will once again be standing as ward candidates for Labour in May’s local elections, £3,000 from Outdoor Action for Kids and the school made up the rest.

Cllr Hall said:

“I think we take as much pride from funding these key community projects that enhance the day-to-day experiences of people in our village as we do in the large infrastructure projects we’re driving right across the county.

“When our freedom of movement is so limited, it’s fantastic to be able to help create something that allows children to play and also exercise outdoors.’

Cllr Kellett added:

“Sherburn Primary is an excellently run community school that provides the heartbeat of Sherburn Village.

“The Labour-run County Council carried out a £1million refurbishment of the school, two years ago and this play equipment further improves facilities and experiences on site.”
