Hands Off Our Buses
Conservative-led Durham County Council are cutting vital bus services in Trimdon and Tory government funding cuts are partly to blame. The Council have said that from 2nd April they plan to scrap the hourly 57a Durham-Trimdon-Hartlepool bus and replace it with a 59 service every two hours that won’t call at Durham.
For local residents that means:
- Being hit hard in the pocket with higher travel costs and more connections
- Longer waiting times for buses
- Less convenient services that make it harder to get to work, college and hospital appointments on time
The changes will cause major disruption for local residents. Many of us are already struggling to travel because of the poor bus service. These cuts will make it tougher and more expensive for residents to get around, leaving our communities increasingly isolated.
These cuts in Trimdon and Thornley are the tip of the iceberg. When government funding runs out at the end of March, more bus routes and local services look set to be scrapped.
Towns and villages across the Sedgefield Constituency – such as Newton Aycliffe, Ferryhill, West Cornforth and Chilton – may suffer the same fate as Trimdon.
Say enough is enough. Send a message that our communities deserve more regular, reliable and affordable buses.
