“Due to the epic ineptitude and complete paralysis of the council our economy is missing out on hundreds of jobs, the government are missing out on valuable tax revenue and the good people of Durham are missing out on brilliant entertainment options…”

– Brewdog CEO and Founder, James Watt.

After Brewdog’s James Watt lifted the lid on the ineffectiveness and incompetence of the Tory-led Coalition running Durham County Council, Labour Leader, Cllr Carl Marshall said:

“The fact this keen, motivated inward investor of a globally recognised brand had to take to social media to shame Durham County Council is a disgrace and yet another embarrassment for this chaotic Coalition, which continues to do serious harm to our county’s economic future.

“County Durham Labour stood shoulder to shoulder with business when we ran the Council – we hung an “open for business” sign on the county and drove forward economic development across our city, towns and villages. Brewdog fell in love with this location, choosing it as a marquee site, investing millions, creating much-needed jobs and training new staff…and they still have no idea when they can open.

“Why is the Council dragging its heels? Why aren’t its leaders communicating with the businesses that Labour attracted to our county? What is happening at Milburngate? If this is happening at such a prestigious blue-chip development, what is happening elsewhere in the county?

“It is time for this failed administration to admit that it is utterly incapable of delivering for the people of County Durham and step aside so Labour can bring some order, progress, and much-needed leadership to County Hall.”
